Welcome to our new website. I along with all the team at Moher Hill Open Farm will be keeping everyone up to date with all the big events and the day to day news here on the farm.
The last few weeks have been very busy for us keeping all the visitors entertained on their holidays. The weather has been very good lately for farming, with lots of mild days helping the grass to grow and allowing us to make lots of hay to help feed our animals over the dark, cold winter months.
Hay is the main feed a lot of our animals love to eat. The making of hay involves cutting the grass and allowing it to dry out for 3-5 days before storing it indoors, until it is needed later in the year.
At this time of the year most of the animals which were born in the spring time have started to get big and some are now strong enough to thrive without the help of their mothers’ milk.
We have been lucky enough to have 2 chickens hatch out of a clutch of eggs this morning. The mother hen looks after them with great care and I am sure that it won’t be long until they start to grow their mature feathers and grow big and strong.
As I write this I see Shane and Alan mowing the grass around the play areas, I think it is time that I go out and help them!
